New times create new methodologies, and that is why we have created this post, to adapt to those schools that work by projects.
We are going to propose different projects that you can adapt to your teaching schedule and to your students needs.
Take into account that we have tried to adapt the projects to a one week of school, were you have an average of three Natural Science classes. You can adapt this projects to your needs by making more activities or mixing projects, or avoiding the activities you do not find essential.
First option
As a whole class you can introduce the topic (water) by doing a conceptual map with the pupils. In this map you can write down different things such as where can we find water, for what do we need water, etc. Here is an example:

After that, you could give them a worksheet with some questions for them to answer so they can warm up in the subjetc. Examples:
- What are the states of water?
- From where do we get water?
- What do we do with sea water?
- Why is it good to take showers?
- For what plants need water?
- Why is important the rain?
- Write six situation where water is needed
- How do we get water from the mountains?
To make the class more dynamic we suggest to share some answer and give “general” answer to all of them so students understand the overall idea.
Children should know the landforms and the different bodies of water, at least a few such as beach, river, ocean, pond,… so here is another worksheet that can do as a team work were creativity is involve as they can color in the bodies:
When the main ideas are settled about water, we can introduce the water cycle, which is really important to understand why water is important.

In this website we have a water cycle worksheet that has the most important concepts to understand: a drawing so kids experiment and create the water cycle, and the concepts, so they understand what they mean and write them down with their own words. Also, the worksheet has been given and aproven by the Australian Goverment.
As a final activity we propose to create a story about a water drop traveling through the water cycle, they should include vocabulary from the unit. They will tell the story in class to their classmates.
Second option
This project has been fully developed in this link:

We recommend this project if you can dedicate two weeks or more to the water project. It is full of fun worksheets such as wordsearchs, drawings, crosswords, vocabulary, and more. It is ideal for kids who enjoy working together or groups that are just starting to learn to work in groups.
